Amla, also known as Indian gooseberry, is known as earth’s richest source of vitamin C. In terms of the quantity of vitamin C, one amla is equal to about 30 lemons; this is why it is known as the mother of fruits in Ayurveda. Vitamin C is beneficial for skin, hair, cardiovascular system, brain, liver, eyes, etc. It promotes strength of connective tissue (hence collagen), which is important for blood vessels, bones, skin, hair, eyes, etc. It is rich in antioxidants, which protect cells from damage done by free radicals; and making it protective against cancer.
In India, it is suggested to eat one amla a day, starting in childhood, due to its amazing health benefits. It is also an important part of Triphala, which is another Ayurveda preparation of great benefits. Amla improves skin elasticity, strengthens bones, promotes healthy long and black hair (helps grey hair), anti-inflammatory, cools the body, lowers blood pressure, prevents constipation, etc
Amla Benefits:
Anti aging
Improves eyesight, cataracts
Improves Liver function
Improves Brain function
Improves Kidney function (diuretic)
Lowers blood pressure
Helps Diabetics
Helps with constipation
Reduces Acidity
Helps body absorb calcium
Clears Skin diseases (acne, psroaisis, blemishes, wrinkles)
Improves Hair growth and promotes shiny, thick hair
Arthritis
Sinusitis
Boosts immunity
Fights Infections
Helps balance Pitt rog (people that have more heat in their body; pitt=heat;rog=disease)
These are few of the many more benefits of amla. Amla can be in the form of juice, chyawanprash, pure, dry fruit, powder or the whole fruit. It can be ordered from amazon or from local Indian stores.
Please consult your doctor before taking this, if you are on anti-diabetic, anti-hypertensive, antidiuretic or any other medications. And start slow because over consumption of anything, even herbal medications, leads to complications.

It is a great fruit. You can get the juice and dried fruit on amazon and find a local Indian store to look for the original fruit. Side effects are possible if used in excess. For example, it helps if you have constipation but if you use it too much it can have a negative feedback and cause constipation. So I would suggest get the juice and drink it 3-4 times a week in the morning, empty stomach. There should be instructions on the juice bottle for the quantity, if not just take 2-3 spoons of it. https://www.amazon.com/Amla-Juice-Organic-Indian-Gooseberry/dp/B01MCSX6IJ/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1488229240&sr=8-2&keywords=amla+juice

Thanks for sharing 🙂 I have started drinking the juice now. I grew up having the pickled version or the jam. All great ways but juice and dried alma are the most potent.

I used to drink fresh amla juice first thing in the morning back at home in India. But here couldn’t find them. Glad to know I could get amla juice on amazon.
